The Adjustment Bureau (2011)

This is a story about fate. What is fate?

The young ambitious rebel, Congressman David Norris (Matt Damon) is about to find out after he causes another ripple effect, in “His Plan,” by accidently meeting Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt) in a hotel men’s room.
David is the front runner in a political battle to become the next US Senator for the great state of New York. An adjustment team is sent in to govern his progress because the reckless behavior of his youth proves to be more than his best friend and campaign chairman, Charlie Traynor (Michael Kelly) can control. That becomes evident after the media delivers a fatal blow to his campaign by the release of damaging arrest photos taken several years ago, on the night he was elected into the House of Representatives. Election Night, with a heavy heart and deflated ego he retreats into the privacy of the men’s restroom to practice his speech, before ultimately appearing in front of his constituencies to concede the Senate race.

For Heaven’s Sake! Who in this world could ever imagine meeting their one True Love, in of all places, a bathroom?

A month goes by and David is on his way to a meeting at his new job with Charlie when out of the blue, he sees her sitting alone on a city bus. This time he learns her name is Elise and even manages to get her phone number before they reach her stop. Actually, it wasn’t just, out of the blue. Instead, it would seem that David has several ripples in “His Plan.” See, Harry (Anthony Mackie) didn’t spill David’s coffee at the right time in the park, he was not supposed to get on that bus. David causes an irreversible ripple when he unexpectedly arrives on time to the meeting at his new job, and walks in while the team is making their adjustment to Charlie. Now the Adjustment Bureau has to choose whether to erase David, or fill him in on his plan. They decide to fill him in. But, within the next four years, David will have to make a decision for himself as he risks everything to see her again, his one True Love, even if for only, one more brief moment.
