Autoplay this!

Yup, self-explanatory, right?

Nevertheless, the whole Facebook experience, which has been, so far, enough of an adventure, escalated to a whole new level of stupidity, with the "video autoplay" feature.

Technically speaking, the "autoplay" feature, freshly implemented in Facebook, chips your bandwidth to the point that, sooner or later (rather sooner), your Facebook page will be as dead as a doornail. In layman's terms, the "autoplay" thingie is like a lap dance: you will enjoy it until your pockets are empty.

Without further ado:

In Firefox: Click on the arrow that points downward (near the padlock icon). From the menu, select Settings. On the left hand side of the screen, select Videos and switch the autoplay option to Off. That's it.

In Chrome: probably the same procedure, except this time you'll have to fiddle with the extensions and plugins, too.

In Internet Explorer: Don't know, don't care, hehe.

Mark Zuckerberg, you did it again!

<To be fair, the “Who can look up your Timeline by name?” feature was likely misunderstood by lots of people. At first glance, you might assume it means that strangers can’t find your profile. But that’s incorrect. There have been lots of ways to navigate to your profile, like clicking your name on a photo you’re tagged in, finding your name in a friend’s friend list, or combing through Likes on a mutual friend’s News Feed post.> (http://techcrunch.com/2013/10/10/facebook-search-privacy/).

Well, duh!

Still, for the first time in its whole entire existence, Facebook took a firm step towards the privacy of its clients. It is a subtle maneuver that required a lot of coding and a lot of brilliant minds. Brace yourselves: the "Friends Requests", "Messages" and "Notifications" icons were moved, in a revolutionary procedure, from the the top left of the screen to the top right of the screen. And you do realize that the fact that Facebook bleached your profile would lead your stalker into a dilemma, right? And they'll never, ever be able to navigate to your profile using photo tags or the propagate search code that I was trying to explain in a previous post?

If you do want to maintain your privacy and your friends' privacy, stop tagging the photos, good people. I do know that is very, very hard for some folks to recognize themselves in pictures, but give them a chance, it's a matter of time. And, once again, I urge you to change the default language from English (US) to English (whatever). If the brilliant people at Facebook realized that the only measure to counter-act invasion of privacy was to switch the buttons from left to right, it means that we might have some IQ tests to perform on them, or they don't care, for that matter. And they don't.

Privacy probing - Facebook's Graph Search

During the Crunchie Awards in San Francisco, at the beginning of year 2010, our little favorite net dictator, Mark Zuckerberg, stated that "privacy was no longer a ‘social norm’ and had just evolved over time".

A Facebook project, initially tossed as garbage code, has resurfaced recently as "Graph Search", a so called "search engine" which is based on a "propagate search code". You don't understand a word I'm saying, right? Ok, let's suppose you have a Facebook account, your privacy is set ironclad and you feel comfy talking to your friends, sharing ideas, photos and stuff. Suddenly, you discover that somebody named I.C.U. (hehe, nice touch, right?) has access to your albums, your photos, everything. How the hell could that have happened? you might ask. Well, it's pretty simple...

I.C.U. has their own list of friends. Those friends have their own friends, so on, and so forth. In the aftermath of this spiral somebody, somewhere knows you, hence giving I.C.U. access - through a very intricate structure of intermediaries - access to your information. And that, my friends, is Graphic Search, the foremost tool to invade somebody's privacy.

Despite all the paranoid instructions that might float around your Facebook timeline ("hover over my name, click settings, uncheck Events..., blabla") there is a simpler way to disable, at least temporarily, Graph Search. Gather around, kids!

By default, when you create a Facebook account, the language is set to English (US). In your Facebook account, go to "Settings" (the gear thingie top right) > Account Settings (from the drop-down menu) and, at the right of the Language line, click Edit. From the drop-down list, next to the Primary Language, choose English (UK) instead of English (US). Click Save and hell, you're "Graph Search" free!

The explanation is that Graph Search was implemented for the English (US) dictionary only and it would take me aeons to explain Zuckerberg that there is almost no difference between the US and the UK dictionary, it's just the pronunciation and a few slang terms that make the difference. Still, I can't argue with a genius, hehe.

For other people, who are partial to their native language, don't be coy! Change the Primary Language accordingly and be assured that by the time Zuckerberg's linguistic team finds a way to implement your language into Graph Search, your grandchildren would have found a better way to override this crap.

Cheers! (English UK) hehe....

Facebook Timeline Remover - The post apocalypse version

A no brainer. If  your Facebook page still shows the timeline, logout. Go to add-ons (Firefox), remove the timeline remove plugin (yes, is a button for that). Restart Firefox. Go to www.timelineremove.com, click on the browser of your choice. You're ok!
Now, if you installed the plugin properly, once you've entered you account in Facebook you should see an option (via the drop-down list near to the Home option).Good luck!

Of mice, keyboards and Facebook's Timeline Remover tweaks

"Over time, we expect governments will become more responsive to issues and concerns raised directly by all their people rather than through intermediaries controlled by a select few. Through this process, we believe that leaders will emerge across all countries who are pro-internet and fight for the rights of their people, including the right to share what they want and the right to access all information that people want to share with them." [via ME, the major shareholder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg]

Now, that you've basked in Zuckerberg's infinite wisdom, let's get to the point.

If you installed the Facebook Timeline Remover plug-in on either Firefox or Chrome, you might have noticed that it works pending the next restart of your computer. To save you the trouble, as soon as you install the plugin, access it via Tools - Add-ons - TimeLineRemove.Com - More (Firefox) and click the "off" check box when asked how your updates should be handled. I bet that is a similar strategy for Chrome users, I'll check it later and let you know.

The explanation is simple: you download the plugin from www.timelineremove.com, install the stable version (1.0.2) and, unless you tweak it as described above, the plug-in updates itself within seconds to version 1.0.3, forcing you to uninstall/reinstall the plug-in every time your computer restarts, in order for Facebook to acknowledge it. Furthermore, you can check it yourself on your Facebook account, via the drop-down list next to the Home option. Should it be effective, you'll see a Timeline Remover option at the bottom of the list. Version 1.0.3 is a beta version, which tries to keep up with the constant and chaotic changes that Zuckerberg's kill-joy squad are trying to perform on Facebook's code.

Obviously, there are plenty of morons out there trying to prevent you from installing this add-on. You are the master of your computer, you decide. Nobody tries to impose anything on you. As for the negative comments, there is a significant reply in the movie Paul (2011): "You can't win with these people!".

Facebook Timeline Remover - The Fall Edition

Firefox users: It takes about 30 secs to show Zuckerberg  a piece of your mind. Uninstall the Timeline Remover plugin, then reinstall it. Restart the browser. Your Facebook Wall will be back, full force.
Do it whenever Zuckerberg's dimwit posse tries to screw around with your wall and your friend's wall.

Chrome users: you do have other options as to kick Zuckerberg's fat ass, so, if you have any other "facebook timeline remover" add-ons, just keep them up to date.

Facebook Timeline Remover - summer edition

My dear friend, Mark Zuckerberg, added a new "update to the Facebook timeline", which prevents most of the users to see their own wall and/or their friends wall on Facebook. The man is relentless, which is commendable, but so am I... For you, those who face the situation described above, go to www.timelineremove.com and reinstall the add-on (it's version 0.4.9, which deals with the latest developments in Zuckerberg's money industry, hehe). But, before you do that, remove the previous add-on (I guess it is 0.4.5), via Tools - Extensions - Timeline remover - remove (Firefox). It works like a charm!

Mark Zuckerberg managed to make my life miserable, once again. For you, good people, who don't stand the "facebook timeline" crap, navigate to www.timelineremove.com and reinstall the add-on. Zuckerberg, you suck, buddy!

Facebook Timeline remover

I really didn't want to post this on the blog, but since Mark Zuckerberg prevented me to put it on my WALL (yes, I still have my Facebook Wall) I decided to go with my own free liberty of expression space, so, for all my friends that still encounter the same timeline shit, go to this site: www.timelineremove.com.
